Fraunhofer Life Science Symposium: call for abstracts!

The 9th Fraunhofer Life Science Symposium will be held in Leipzig from 9 to 10 October 2014. You can now register at www.fs-leipzig.com. Papers on this year's topic, "Medicinal Stem Cell Products", are to be submitted by 7 July 2014.

Stem cells are extremely potent – they are able to divide themselves indefinitely and differentiate into different tissue types. They therefore offer a great amount of potential for medical research. Stem cell products are not only at the focus of new kinds of therapy, but are also becoming increasingly more significant in developing drugs and testing active ingredients.

Under the title "Medicinal Stem Cell Products", Fraunhofer Life Science Symposium will look at the production and manufacturing as well as the expansion and differentiation of medically relevant stem cell products, besides addressing application possibilities such as toxicity tests, drug screening and therapy development. A number of renowned scientists have already been confirmed to give opening talks on the various topic areas. Sharon Gerecht, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA, Robert Zweigert, Hanover Medical School, Hanover, Germany, Sarah Ferber, Orgenesis Inc., New York, USA and Nicole zur Nieden, University of California Riverside, Riverside, USA, are set to attend the symposium, with more names to follow.

The annual symposium brings together around 200 attendees from academia, medicine and industry. Topics change every year, enabling participants to discuss state-of-the-art technology, trends and developments taking place within specific subdisciplines of regenerative medicine. Poster presentations, an industry exhibition and networking events will run alongside the many specialised talks.
